  • North and east of Zion National Park, Cedar Breaks resembles Bryce Canyon, but smaller.  The Point Supreme viewpoint sits at about 10,000 ft. In this early May photo, snow is still visible in the shadows.

  • If there is one iconic feature in this park that everyone looks for, it is The Watchman. It shows its best looks at sunset, but even late afternoon looks pretty good on this old rock.

  • Sitting atop the Colorado Plateau near Cedar City Utah is Cedar Breaks National Monument. The view from this rim at 10,000 ft. looks into a valley 1/2 mile below.  The rocks and erosion patterns are similar to those found in Bryce Canyon, about 40 miles to the east.

  • This formation, on the east highway entrance road to Zion NP is made of Navajo Sandstone. It consists of thick layers of cross-bedded sandstone formed by windblown sand dunes in a vast ancient desert. In the early Jurassic, the climate of the Colorado Plateau dried significantly, creating desert conditions over a broad region of today's Colorado Plateau and beyond.
