Spirit Hand

In Native culture, the red handprint traditionally represented a gateway between the physical and spirit worlds. It has more recently come to symbolize the untold plights of missing and murdered indigenous women. This symbol started appearing in recent years at Banning State Park. The walls of the abandoned "Powerhouse" in the old sandstone quarry are covered with handprints. This one, located above a doorway, hints at a passageway to another place..
